Time's Ticking.......................

Monday

I hate budgets. I hate theeemmmm. I add up all the numbers but they always, always end up being wrong! Gah! Rah! Throwing Mac screens around! I hate maths!!! I took up 4 pages in my book, scribbling down random bits and bobs for it!

All I did for course today was write up the budget. The end.

But I'm a Happy Kimberley tonight, mostly because money came through and I got dessert pizza :3

Tuesday

I came into the maclab to find it PACKED!

Also The handbook is confusing because classmates tell me that such and such is expected in certain ways that are not outlined in the book. WHHHHHAAAAAAAAT       TT_TT

I AM VERY CONFUSED RIGHT NOW

Scenechronize. I haven't used this software since last year. I wasn't that fond of it at the time, but I did find it helpful. I apparently have to use it again. Joy.

Wednesday

In Photography today we took a bunch of different types of lenses to different places and took some photos... I had a wide angle 18 - 35mm on a Nikon D90. I'm far more used to macro, so it was interesting working with it to see what I could come up with. I think I came up with some neat pics anyway. I went to the train station and trespassed on the side that nobody is supposed to go on. Hah hah, I'm such a rebel.

Crossing the line. Cuz like, I do that a lot.

One of my fave pics I took. I like the framing in it.

This is actually a teaser pic for my end of year photography project.

As mentioned in an earlier blog, I'm playing around with refraction and reflection to capture individual perceptions of places. We all see places, but what makes places different for each and every one of us, is how we see them for ourselves.

I made this photo by sticking my glasses in front of the lens, and trusting to god that it was focused, because I sure as hell couldn't see anything sharp without my precious spectacles. Haha, it worked!!

Also more prepro for trailer happened.

Thursday

More Prepro stuff, mainly just going over things and making sure they work. Reassured Aman at some point that Patrick is going to believe his storyboards are his own.

I forgot how to print stuff, and that I need to remove the bottle top first, before putting water in the bottle.

I need to sleep, BUT, less than 24 hours until hand in SOOOOOO yeah. I fell asleep on the couch in the lounge, until Chris and Vincent came along and woke me up with their voices.

A recurring thought that appears with everyone, why is every assignment worth 10% this semester? It's a bit of a bother, really... A lot of us don't really like how hard we're working, when our film is only 10%. Dear Patrick, perhaps make a paper separate from the combined project. Thanks, Kimberley.

Friday

WE ALL TURNED UP IN THE MORNING AND WORKED ON OUR ASSIGNMENT. THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH A FEW ASSIGNMENTS, ACROBAT CRASHED FOR IRIS, AND I WENT FOR A RUN TO THE SCANNER TO SCAN IN LEE'S STORYBOARDS

NOW, WE COMMENCE ON OUR FILMS.

Saturday

You know, I came into campus this morning to do some photography journal work, got reminded that Lego Movie exists, and then went on a huge mind wandering journey about totalitarian themes in the film, ahahaa this is what my brain used to do, before dark clouds decided to move in. I ended up writing half an essay about it XD I love writing essays.

Lego Movie is Awesome....

Have you ever realised just how dark Lego Movie is, really? So much totalitarianism.... Lord Business, is pretty much the new Nineteen Eighty-Four's Big Brother. It's slammed everywhere throughout the film.

There are certain similarities between Lego Movie and George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. The fact that the government controls media is one (Sound a bit like real life, though....). In Lego Movie, the show "Where are my pants?" is wholly run by the government and President Business.

It's mentioned some time before that Octan (which is the super huge controlly company that has their fingers everywhere) creates everything... Everything... This show is one of the shows they create. Now, if you've ever read/seen Nineteen Eighty-four, does that now strike a bell? Everything media wise in 1984 is created and run by the government, even down to the songs the citizens hear. Every single word, in every single song, is meticulously chosen in order to make sure that the ears that hear it, don't have any "wrong thoughts" thus making sure they're still in control. Lies are everywhere. The general public are told that they are constantly at war with one of the other super-continents, while the other is an ally. But, which super-continent it is changes, and the public don't realise. They keep on believing that they've been at war with the particular super-continent for many years, when in reality, it's only been two weeks. That in itself may be a lie, as there is no proof that war is actually happening. It's just told to them, and they believe it. Total control.

Such themes of control appear in Lego Movie aswell. Just look at the billboards that flash past on screen as we get shots of Bricksburg, during the scene where Emmet follows the rules from a government issued instruction book on how to fit in, have everybody like you, and always be happy (ie to do what is we say is socially accepted, also this is what "happiness" really is, okay guys, much love, from Octan)

Did you catch that line near the end? "What was I just thinking? ...I don't care." He was just thinking "wtf did he just say about being put to sleep???!?!"  da da da da THOUGHT POLICE. It's just like what I mentioned before, about the citizens under Big Brother's rule seemingly "forgetting" about the war changes with the supercontinents.

The billboards are enough to say that something not quite right is happening....

For example, this. Always watching....

SMILE! The lego dude doesn't look very happy though.

Enjoy popular music (by our government made song by under our "band name" A Popular Band)

It's a bit hard to read, but those banners say "Don't touch my stuff" and "Don't stay up all nite" Hmmm..

This appears, a huge billboard for President Business, looking very cold war era-y

Conform!!!

"No chewing gum" "No Playing in the Street" and then "No Marching Bands" Marching bands? Perhaps it's code word for gathered riots against Octan, making sure that rule abiding citizens don't gather together and march

Always return a compliment. ...always... And hi guys, it's me Octan again, putting my logo everywhere lol so you can always be sure I'm there for you, watching, watching......

Octan's logo is everywhere. Much like Ingsoc, really, for Nineteen Eighty-Four...

 What was I doing? I don't know. I'm tired now. I should stop staring at my computer.

ps this song is awesome lololol

CRAZY WEEK

THIS IS MY 50TH POST, BUY ME CHOCOLATE CAKE!!! because I rly need some

Monday

Trailer

I looked through the casting call and found a couple of people that might fit various roles for my trailer project.

The class had a meeting to sort out issues regarding our shoots, and it was pretty thorough. It was great, and now everybody is more aware of what everybody is doing. Stuff's getting done, yo! We've planned some kind of call back casting call thing, and we're meeting on Thursday to arrange that.

I also got the Sony F55 camera out, just to "play around" with it. I've been 1st AC a bunch of times with it, but never really had a chance to just chill with the camera and see what I can do with it by myself. I'm going to be Camera op on two or three different shoots with it in the weeks ahead, so I figured it might be useful to get some more experience with it, to refresh myself yadda yadda yadda. Here's a screengrab of my bag, taken in my lounge that has terrible lighting, proving that I managed to stick a lens on it, find the record button, record something, and offload it (yayyyyy).

Tuesday

Trailer

I met with Don today and spent nearly three hours going over the shots and what not for my trailer. We've come up with about 25 shots so far, and decided to come back to it (the deciding of shots) after I've gotten in touch with the other people in my project about what is and what isn't achievable for them, mostly in regards to the animation in the trailer.

Imagine this scene but Leslie has brown hair and there's a bunch of flying flowers.

Heaps of communication has been happening on the Facebook page, we need to get shooting schedules sorted, so I suggested that we discuss this on Thursday when we sort out call backs.

Also me and animator friend just had a really interesting conversation with a 10 year old. A 10 year old! Wowee, I wish more 10 year olds were like that. He knew his stuff!

Wednesday

^ That

I need to find Don.

Photography

Today we went to the studio and played out with long exposures and painting with light. In order to get both the light trails and the subject lit, we had a flash go off at a certain point during each exposure. It made some pretty interesting photos!!!

We also looked at multiple exposure, meaning taking two photos taken are merged together in camera to create one photograph. Result A + Result B = Result C

If Dan and Virat had a baby...

Thursday

Trailer

Me, Sarah, Lee and Tony went out to a bunch of different locations today, scouting for more possible shooting locations.

Also, we had another meeting, to discuss shooting dates for everyone.

If we were to start on the 7th of September (Which is what's we've planned, with Lee's short, it looks like it's going to be a really tight squeeze, if all of us were to use all our 4 allowed shooting dates, one after the other. We'd be finishing shooting literally the day it's due, which is on the 21st of October. Big class, this year. I've sacrificed one of my days, but that's just one day. Most people have a much bigger project than me, and would need all four days. It doesn't leave much time for editing, still.

Stress. I'm concerned for a couple of my classmates, they do not handle stress in any way that's good. It hurts me to see them hurting.

Saturday

Trailer

Yesterday was full of... well... Full of emotion, I guess. Class was pretty much class in the morning, but by 6pm, I had noone left for my camera department. Meaning, I don't have a camera department. I was awfully stressed and sleep deprived at some point, and something my DoP said just made me snap. I may have been a bit too harsh in the sense, so I apologised and removed myself from the room to calm myself down. I go back, only to get told that they will not work on my project anymore. Ahh. Not only is there nobody available to operate the camera for my project, but now my DoP isn't there.

At this point I'm almost in tears, and seeking solitude, I eventually found myself bundled up amongst the costumes and the pillows and the random bed in the old Twirlie's wardrobe department. Sometimes one just needs to take time away from commitments and responsibilities, to better one's mind and happiness.

Later on I found my way inside some random person's house. Friends are great, as are hugs, and hugs with friends are even better. They needed a hug just as much as I did, for their own reasons. It was grand. And thus our plan to just chill and watch teh funnehs ensued. I almost feel asleep by the time we decided to not watch any more. Almost.

Early this morning I had a brief meeting with a potential actress for the Witch character. She seems lovely, but there might be a bit of a scheduling issue. Ah. More scheduling issues.

I also drew up some more storyboards, and fell asleep on my chair while I was doing so. Thought a walk would wake me up, but it did not.

My brain is clearly at its limits. Flat car battery, and the worse driving I've ever done, a result of everything taking its toll on my concentration. Three more months, Three more months....

Sunday

Trailer

More storyboards. I also got streetpass from Aaron. He seems chirpy, today.

Long post, long post!!!!

Monday 12:58pm:

Photography

 I came into SIT this morning to use the internet: mostly just to send off a few emails and send a script to my mahm, and also to get the life-sustaining Streetpass from my pals that make up the KiAzzArri cult. I decided not to bring in my laptop with me. After the sending of emails and gathering of Streetpass I decided to spend the lunch hour researching for my photography project, and I think I've finalised on an idea. The project this semester is "Time or Place", meaning I take photos of Time or of Place. I'm thinking, for my own individual project, that I"m going to go with Place. What would make my Place photos an interesting topic, is that fact that I'm going to be using the elements of refraction and reflection to portray more of the Place's story. Here's some examples:

Each element of refraction/reflection is focused on, and you get a much more in depth sense of where you are and its story from it

Internship

For the internship paper I am FREAKING OUT. I have about 12 hours and I need to get another, like, 88 more in order to gain my 100 hours worth, in order to graduate. On top of all that, I need to have 20 hours of what's called "personal development", and I'm not entirely what I could do for that. I looked into some online screenwriting courses, and Waiariki have a whole bunch of really great sounding ones. But I'm wondering if my time on the radio could also count towards the personal development hours.

Anyway, I flicked off a few emails to Whitebait TV today, you might recognise the name, they've got What Now and The 4:30 Show. The response I got back was that they're being completely bombarded with internship and work experience inquiries from all over, but maybe some stroke of luck will come along and I can get internship hours from them.

Tuesday 12:24pm:

Internship

There's no room left for any internships this year at the place I was looking at in Dunedin. So hopefully this Queenstown one happens, and that Whitebait TV sign me up for something there. I blame the lost internship opportunity on the fact that I was so bad at organizing myself to sort it out :/ Get your head in the game, Kimberley. Ahhh. But I really want to be able to hang in Queenstown, so that would be nice. I suggested something to Patrick that qualifies as part of the Personal Development, and well, I have those hours done, I just need to get the paperwork sorted. Which is great, because now I don't have to think about that. SO, as mentioned yesterday, I only need 88 more hours of internship. Hah. hahahahaha (oh jesus I'm gonna die)

I just checked my emails, no more response from Whitebait so far, but apparently the Queenstown production is moving to Auckland, so now that one's gone, too. Ahh. This is when I go hide back in my dungeon again : I *INTERNALLY SCREAMING* help me.

Story

I don't have internet at my new place (one day, I will hopefully, so I can make sure nobody kicks me off my placing on the world championship leaderboard on MarioKart 8) so I've been able to write heaps of stuff for the story. Not only that, but world building etc etc.

There are new characters.

First, there's Ezekial. He's.... an extremely polite homicidal tiger, with sabre teeth and two tails. Cyrin (which is what I'm calling the Skull Kid reference dude) is his best friend, and together they both believe in the "prophecy". The prophecy predicts of a human coming along to save their world from certain destruction.

Now, my favourite character is probably Jasper, a tree elf. The guy is pretty freaking cool. At the moment, he's pretty much sidekick to Ko. He has clothes that glow in the dark, and fights with a magic spear, and also has a bow and a quiver full of arrows, that's pretty much just for show. Looks wise, he's probably a combination of Pearl from Steven Universe and Gary from Regular Show.

Ahm. I am aware that I'm making a Live Action thing, I just like basing stuff on cartoons, because cartoons are cool XD If only I could draw awesomely... I can really see The Cat Kids being a neat little animation.

There are fairies made of flowers, and wood pixies (who are naturally gifted healers of the forest) and bush runners (who look like a small hedge and are blind at night), and star moths that follow Jasper's clothes at night, and shade butterflies that cannot go in the sunlight.

An angry cheese obsessed man turns up at some point, and he controls a pack of wolves.

Joe's storyline needs expanding. He's not really doing much, right now.

In other news

I spent half an hour walking around The Warehouse looking for kitchen sink plugs. I gave up and found them within 5 minutes at Mitre 10.

Today - MOAR DARKROOM STUFFS :D

I rocked on up to class, only to realise I needed my negatives and contact sheet out of my locker... My locker keys were at home. SO I skated as fast as I could back home (I was flying, maybe like 35km/h), grabbed the stupid keys, and skated back. Printed some stuff off to shove in my journal (ughhhhh journal work) and skipped down to the darkroom. I developed a test strip and then a real print. I ran into Tarrinkovich at some point. Tried to give him a fright, but he saw me coming D:

Anyway. The first print, I was alright with. The black is pretty grey in the background, but that might be something to do with the exposure in the negative.

 Kev suggested developing another one, but this time with the contrast of the light set wayyyyy up.
You can see the difference. A lot of the detail got washed out. It kind of looks like something out of a horror film, heh heh.

Thursday 10:00pm:

Trailer project

Quick post because campus shuts in an hour. I have completed writing the story all up.  Such an emotional ending, all cheesy and filled with sibling love, such sad at leaving of characters, yadda yadda yadda. There's also a synopsis in the works, and an AV script, of which are due tomorrow at 1pm. Fun times.

Friday 12:24pm:

Trailer project

I sent off the AV Script and synopsis this morning, now I'm in the stage of sorting out all the other things of pre-production. The flower fairies are something that has to be in the trailer, and well, I'm no animator. SO THAT'S WHEN FRIENDS COME IN :D :D :D :D :D heh heh. I messaged Tarrin about him possibly animating them for me, and he seems keen on the idea. I'm apparently allowed to be on his shoot for his project, as a camera thing, which sounds great. yayyyy working together to makes stuffs yay.

Internship

Peeps from Whitebait TV got in touch with me, and they've offered me a couple of weeks helping out on The 4:30 Show and What Now :D Fun times. Apparently Human Traces might not be going ahead now, in the time that we need to have time done.

Sunday 4:35pm:

Trailer project

Yesterday I thoroughly read over the details for the next hand in, so I could get my head around what needs to be done. It seems reasonable, for the amount of time I have to do it in.

Today, I contacted a whole bunch of people in regards to my own and other people's projects.

I also did a bit of location scouting, mainly in regards to looking for a suitable lounge to shoot in, and a forest.

Talking to the peeps on our Facebook page (Thanks Don, for setting that up. If that chocolate is still in the MacLab, you are allowed to eat the rest of it.), I talked about different locations for my project. I need a tunnel, and a hall, somewhat like the ones below.

Peeps suggested places, and other peeps actually need something similar, so the page is a great environment for sorting stuff out. I also set up the group page for my own project, and will be adding to that later.

I went out to Sandy Point, and got pine needles and dirt all throughout my shoes. Also, I almost fell into an invisible hole. I guess I'll add that onto the risk assessment form....

Anyway. For most of the trailer, it's going to be shot in a forest. I took some phone pics while I was there. I need different parts of the forest, too. Like a clearing, and tree parts... and more trees parts... A lot of tree parts, really... Trees are hard to come by, in a forest.

Here's a clearing sort of thing that could perhaps be used as the campground. I thought to myself that I would camp there, if I was in the middle of nowhere.

An interesting part of the forest I stumbled upon. There's a lot of stumbling in my story, and I found that I stumbled over heaps of logs and what not. More stuff for the risk assessment form, I suppose :P

I thought this was quite an interesting area, perhaps the place the witch goes to obtain the power from the moon for her magic blood rituals and what not

Another interesting part.

So yes, I guess that sums up this week, then.

How come the cheesecake lady always disappears off of Facebook whenever I want to buy a cheesecake? D:

Film Project

Having to move houses and sort everything out for that has reaalllyyyy cut into my time to work on my major project. I might have mentioned before, that I'm making a trailer. Yes, there's that, but I also need to have a feature length story made for it. Mr Mime (Sorry, Patrick *smirks to self*)  wants to see a structural overview, a beat sheet of that, and then bits of the story written up in an AV Script, by next Friday. As of 6:30pm Wednesday night, I've properly written up about 10% of the thing. Like, I know the story, I just have to have it written out. Ahhh. Hopefully I'll be fine. The final av script and everything isn't due until Friday the 14th (I think), which should be plenty of time for me, actually

"The saviour, the saviour, the saviour. He is not gone, he is not gone..."
Okay. Now it's Thursday night. I spent the day vacuuming carpet that's never been vacuumed/writing moar story. I've gotten up to the start of Ko's Journey to find Rotedodi. (The Robot/Teddy/Doll/Dinosaur thing, her favourite toy from childhood.) At this stage, she's met the witchy woo, and is now a kid. She's just run into her first character that her imagination is creating. He's kind of based on Skull Kid from Zelda, looks wise.

Anyway. He's going to lead her towards his "Saviour", which Ko thinks is Rotedodi, but is soooooo not. The strange Skull Kid like dude is a bad guy, and is leading her towards a .... terrible fate.... (I'M SO SORRY XD) But yeah. Leading her towards something bad because conflict yadda yadda yadda it makes story, and brings in the next event of Ko's imaginative journey to find Rotedodi.

I've also introduced Ko's brother Joe, and established how much he cares for his sister over his girlfriend.

Also also there is a character called "Brad", who briefly appears at the start, who is obsessed with apples. He eats 20 of them a day. Slightly based on a friend of mine. Who eats apples. Weeeee look at my terribly prose style of writing that I know I'm just going to transfer it to screenplay later on. So there's NO THINKING ALLOWED.

Ahhmmm. I'm procrastinating now. I just feel so tirreed. But I don't want to go hommmmeee. Because I have to drive and I hate driving when I'm tired. Ah. I just checked the time. Now I'm breaking curfew for my licence. Great. :I THANKS, INTERNET.

Photography

In photography we did more dark room stuff. I developed a contact sheet. Back in the classroom we all got given these fancy pencils that you use to mark the contact sheets, to help decide which photos to use. Nobody wanted to use the yellow ones. So we all used the red ones. It was a grand time.

Film Class

Film class this morning (friday now) we had table reads of our scripts. I shared the first 6 pages of my story, and got some pretty fantastic feedback. Oh my gosh, what did I even just hear? This is when my modesty starts to come through. I... don't even know how to feel right now.

The 6 pages of the story that got read, according to classmates and tutor, were compelling. It had an attention grabbing opening, and interesting characters. The little details and quirks scattered throughout were an amusing little addition. It was apparently like reading a storybook, which is brilliant, because that's what I am after. Ahm. The words "Auteur" in conjunction with "It felt like the writer is saying something" were mentioned. Ho-ly-shit.

Now. There is a lot of emotion in the story. And the class were worried that a trailer would not do the story justice, in terms of bringing out the emotion. The idea of making a teaser was suggested by Patrick. Instead of making a 2 minute trailer, I could make a 10 or so minute long teaser, finishing on a cliff hanger (which would be after Skull Kid up there leads her off to find his saviour.) This is the first time that the idea has crossed my mind. I still plan to write up the rest of the story, and turn that into screenplay, but instead of taking bits out of the story to make into a trailer, I'd only make the first few scenes. So. Basically my very own Beast of Fawkes project, aha. This means that the two Ko characters change priorities as to who gets the most screentime. Ahm. I might need an animators help with creating some of the fantastical elements, then. Floating orbs and what not. I need to find 7 actors. Ohhhhh god I hate casting. Wait a second. *sheepishly chuckles* Since Ko is based on me, and she needs to have longboarding skills, and three quarters of the same personality, and the fact that I am going nowhere near DoPing or Camera Opping my own film this year, can I just play Ko? Ahaa that makes things easier. Right. I just need to find a Brad, a Joe, a Shariah, a Liza, a kid Ko, aaaand a few extras that I just remembered now :I And Skull Kid. Oh god, I need to make his costume. Oh god, the time. ahhhh. I need to shoot in a forest, a restaurant, a street, and a lounge. My lounge is way too tiny. Ahhh no, location scouting D:

~~~~~~~~~~~
Now it is Friday night. I've calmed down from the hype. I can think rationally. And I come backed up with reasons as to why I'm going to stick with the trailer.
1) I've spent the last several weeks in the mindset of the trailer. Everything I've done up to this point, has been intended to have a trailer come out of it.
2) My intended real world outcomes, as mentioned a couple of weeks ago in my pitch, is to be a screenwriter. Let me put this in a way that will probably shock all of you: I don't want to make films. Rather, I want to write films. 80% of the reason as to why I chose the trailer project is because I'd get to have a feature length film story made by the end of it.
3) I want to be able to spend the majority of my time working on creating a beautiful piece of literature art. If I have to make a teaser, well then, the script for that is already finished (15 pages, multiple locations, multiple scenes, a lot of actors, a lot of days shooting worth). If I create a trailer, I can dedicate more time to develop the story into something that is truly exceptional. Which is what I want to be doing, in order to help develop my skills. Patrick said at the beginning of the semester, to those of us who were thinking of making trailers - that he is not going to let us see the trailer as easy way out. He would not let us just dilly dally around while everyone else is working hard. - NAY. I do not intend to "dilly dally around". I intended to push myself to make this feature story. I need it to be fantastical, to be emotional, to be spectacle, to be wondrous, to be a story. I need to.
4) Because, simply put, there is so much negative aura in my brain this year that if I dedicate less time for any more things that I love (in this case, writing), I will simply not be able to cope. I need to look after myself, first.
Kimmy!!
Another week, another blog. (Still managing to keep on top of them, yeap, I'm just writing parts of it up as they happen. GIMME DEM CREDITS)
Photography
Photography this week was more darkroom stuff. I developed my reel that I took in the park last week, and they turned out alright. I was worried that they'd all be horribly over or under exposed or something, but they were ok. Kevin is still calling me "Kimmy". I am not too sure what to make of that. I brought a bag of chocolate in that I bought from Quality Foods Southland the other day, and shared that around. The last time I saw it, I had left in in the lounge with a note saying "free chocolate!" And that was the last of that XD. Everyone was astounded at my tale of cheap bakery items at the QFS factory shop. Seriously, those packets of sheet pastry that you buy in the supermarket that normally cost $5?? They sell them for $1. They also sell giant bags of frozen cookie dough and croissants etc for a couple of dollars a bag. I'm going to plan a class field trip out there, you can get to it on Baker St, which is off Onslow St, which is off Inglewood Road. But this isn't really talking about photography. There were discussions about who preferred darkroom over digital photography, and a chilled out journal writing session in which Kev pointed out that he's never seen a film student make a decent journal in five years. I must admit, I don't like creating journals. Hah hah hah. Memorable moments were standing in the darkroom when suddenly it goes pitch black. It happened a couple of times, actually. Also, at some point Maintenance decides to shut off the hot water, of which I needed to get the water at 20 degrees. So. Kev goes off to thieve a jug from somewhere.
Lana's Wee Shoot
We were outnumbered 7 to 4. All these animators just standing there. COMMENCE BATTLE. Hah. For Lana's project thing, she's making some kind of promo piece for the Animation department. Me, Virat and Dan helped her out with that. Spent the morning in the Greenscreen room shooting mid shot profiles of a few different animation students. Most of the time, someone did something hilarious, so we'd all crack up laughing. Ohh, it was a good astmosphere. I felt really jealous that all these animators where being filmed and I wasn't, so at break time Lana let me play with the F55, and all I did was be a copy cat and just stand there making weird facial expressions. I needed an apple box to stand on, because the camera was set at Nathan Mora's hight XD I love being able to use the F55, being cam assist is really fun. Hopefully I can use it some more, because I'm apparently going to be the camera operator on Aman's shoot later in the semester. I would like to get more experienced with it.
Anyway. We split for class, and came back together afterwards to get an interview done. So we all piled into the animator lair, and watched Hayward's glorious eyebrows wriggle around on his face, while Lana asked him a bunch of stuff. I framed up most of the shots taken in 210. Ohh, I felt real special. If you ever see the promo piece, and I'm around, I'm going to point that little fact out. Mmkayyyy. Look at my awesome focusing on the left hand side of the keyboard, raddi raddi rah, that sort of stuff, ahaha...
Film Class
Film class, not much actually happened in the class. A few discussions about different things, then we were pretty much left to our own devices after about half and hour. More scripting, yeah. Memorable quote: (in regards to him wanting to find a tall, slim woman) "Because if you have a short girl, the camera man will be having a problem" says Virat, with a cheesy grin on his face. Another memorable quote: "Do you know of a girls room?" Don is still looking for one *snickers*. Oh, I'm terrible.
Our self reflective essay is due tomorrow. I am moving all day tomorrow, and I made the stupid decision to also arrange a meeting on the same day. SO. I spent today dedicated to writing it. I had to stick Facebook Block back on because I was procrastinating there so much. It's funny. Twitter helps me with my concentration, but Facebook does not. So if Facebook is blocked, but I can still access Twitter, productivity goes up. If both are blocked, productivity remains at an medium-slow to average pace. So yes. That is what I did, and I got that out of the way. (and of course I want to share it, so I'm sneaking onto Opera instead of my normal Chrome because I haven't figured out how to block Facebook on that, mwahaha)
Am I allowed to talk about this?
Jason Kerrison from the bands OpShop and Fungi was in town on Saturday. I helped out with making a music video for him. Not much was known about it until Friday afternoon, when suddenly everybody found out who it was. SUCH EXCITEMENT. We were allowed to take pictures, so I don't think they are that strict on the whole "hush hush" thing. But anyway, you can read all about it in this blog right here :)
Fungi Music Video Shoot.
Today was the day that the music video for Fungi's song "My Friend" was shot. A bunch of us film students from the Southern Institute of Technology helped out making the video. We were scattered around in different departments. I was helping out with "art department" with a few others from my class. Other coursemates of mine were helping with grip, gaff, camera, security, dog watcher etc. Really though, it was way laid back, there wasn't really any of the hierarchical happenings that you can get on a lot of different shoots, so we all just helped out wherever we could. At some point, we were all security XD. Scott Kennedy was the director, he's a pretty neat dude. And Josh Wallace, he's pretty awesome as a DoP. They were the first people I met when I first arrived on set at 8am. Really friendly. We met some more crew. Shortly afterwards I helped put together a phone booth for the shoot. The band members are great people. Fungi are made up of Shay Muddle, Tim Skedden, Will Scott, and Jason Kerrison. Shay's dog Indy is a really cool dog :)
Even though it was a FREEZING DAY, and I spent most of it shivering and trying to stand awkwardly close to people for warmth, it was a day that I am glad I got to experience. For the most part, we got to simply observe, and look after gear. Thanks for shouting us food, Shay :D
Memorable moments were sharing a single cookie with everyone: band, crew and actors alike. A group hug with Fungi. Fun times.
Here's some photos:
This is Indy!! Indy seems to be really used to people. And she can shake paws!
There are people on the roof. For this particular scene they wanted a higher angle, so up there they go...
Kids banging on the door.
All of us banging on the door!! Random members of the public were encouraged to appear in the music video, as part of a crowd. One group of teenage girls almost wet themselves when the DoP went up and asked them if they wanted to be in a music video, haha.
Mayor Tim! He's also in the music video! Everyone's in the music video!!
Yes, a great day had by all.
