Photography
Photography this week was more darkroom stuff. I developed my reel that I took in the park last week, and they turned out alright. I was worried that they'd all be horribly over or under exposed or something, but they were ok. Kevin is still calling me "Kimmy". I am not too sure what to make of that. I brought a bag of chocolate in that I bought from Quality Foods Southland the other day, and shared that around. The last time I saw it, I had left in in the lounge with a note saying "free chocolate!" And that was the last of that XD. Everyone was astounded at my tale of cheap bakery items at the QFS factory shop. Seriously, those packets of sheet pastry that you buy in the supermarket that normally cost $5?? They sell them for $1. They also sell giant bags of frozen cookie dough and croissants etc for a couple of dollars a bag. I'm going to plan a class field trip out there, you can get to it on Baker St, which is off Onslow St, which is off Inglewood Road. But this isn't really talking about photography. There were discussions about who preferred darkroom over digital photography, and a chilled out journal writing session in which Kev pointed out that he's never seen a film student make a decent journal in five years. I must admit, I don't like creating journals. Hah hah hah. Memorable moments were standing in the darkroom when suddenly it goes pitch black. It happened a couple of times, actually. Also, at some point Maintenance decides to shut off the hot water, of which I needed to get the water at 20 degrees. So. Kev goes off to thieve a jug from somewhere.
Lana's Wee Shoot
Lana's Wee Shoot
We were outnumbered 7 to 4. All these animators just standing there. COMMENCE BATTLE. Hah. For Lana's project thing, she's making some kind of promo piece for the Animation department. Me, Virat and Dan helped her out with that. Spent the morning in the Greenscreen room shooting mid shot profiles of a few different animation students. Most of the time, someone did something hilarious, so we'd all crack up laughing. Ohh, it was a good astmosphere. I felt really jealous that all these animators where being filmed and I wasn't, so at break time Lana let me play with the F55, and all I did was be a copy cat and just stand there making weird facial expressions. I needed an apple box to stand on, because the camera was set at Nathan Mora's hight XD I love being able to use the F55, being cam assist is really fun. Hopefully I can use it some more, because I'm apparently going to be the camera operator on Aman's shoot later in the semester. I would like to get more experienced with it.
Anyway. We split for class, and came back together afterwards to get an interview done. So we all piled into the animator lair, and watched Hayward's glorious eyebrows wriggle around on his face, while Lana asked him a bunch of stuff. I framed up most of the shots taken in 210. Ohh, I felt real special. If you ever see the promo piece, and I'm around, I'm going to point that little fact out. Mmkayyyy. Look at my awesome focusing on the left hand side of the keyboard, raddi raddi rah, that sort of stuff, ahaha...
Film Class
Film class, not much actually happened in the class. A few discussions about different things, then we were pretty much left to our own devices after about half and hour. More scripting, yeah. Memorable quote: (in regards to him wanting to find a tall, slim woman) "Because if you have a short girl, the camera man will be having a problem" says Virat, with a cheesy grin on his face. Another memorable quote: "Do you know of a girls room?" Don is still looking for one *snickers*. Oh, I'm terrible.
Our self reflective essay is due tomorrow. I am moving all day tomorrow, and I made the stupid decision to also arrange a meeting on the same day. SO. I spent today dedicated to writing it. I had to stick Facebook Block back on because I was procrastinating there so much. It's funny. Twitter helps me with my concentration, but Facebook does not. So if Facebook is blocked, but I can still access Twitter, productivity goes up. If both are blocked, productivity remains at an medium-slow to average pace. So yes. That is what I did, and I got that out of the way. (and of course I want to share it, so I'm sneaking onto Opera instead of my normal Chrome because I haven't figured out how to block Facebook on that, mwahaha)
Am I allowed to talk about this?
Jason Kerrison from the bands OpShop and Fungi was in town on Saturday. I helped out with making a music video for him. Not much was known about it until Friday afternoon, when suddenly everybody found out who it was. SUCH EXCITEMENT. We were allowed to take pictures, so I don't think they are that strict on the whole "hush hush" thing. But anyway, you can read all about it in this blog right here :)
Thanks, Kimberley.
