Lego Movie is Awesome....

Have you ever realised just how dark Lego Movie is, really? So much totalitarianism.... Lord Business, is pretty much the new Nineteen Eighty-Four's Big Brother. It's slammed everywhere throughout the film.

There are certain similarities between Lego Movie and George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. The fact that the government controls media is one (Sound a bit like real life, though....). In Lego Movie, the show "Where are my pants?" is wholly run by the government and President Business.

It's mentioned some time before that Octan (which is the super huge controlly company that has their fingers everywhere) creates everything... Everything... This show is one of the shows they create. Now, if you've ever read/seen Nineteen Eighty-four, does that now strike a bell? Everything media wise in 1984 is created and run by the government, even down to the songs the citizens hear. Every single word, in every single song, is meticulously chosen in order to make sure that the ears that hear it, don't have any "wrong thoughts" thus making sure they're still in control. Lies are everywhere. The general public are told that they are constantly at war with one of the other super-continents, while the other is an ally. But, which super-continent it is changes, and the public don't realise. They keep on believing that they've been at war with the particular super-continent for many years, when in reality, it's only been two weeks. That in itself may be a lie, as there is no proof that war is actually happening. It's just told to them, and they believe it. Total control.

Such themes of control appear in Lego Movie aswell. Just look at the billboards that flash past on screen as we get shots of Bricksburg, during the scene where Emmet follows the rules from a government issued instruction book on how to fit in, have everybody like you, and always be happy (ie to do what is we say is socially accepted, also this is what "happiness" really is, okay guys, much love, from Octan)

Did you catch that line near the end? "What was I just thinking? ...I don't care." He was just thinking "wtf did he just say about being put to sleep???!?!"  da da da da THOUGHT POLICE. It's just like what I mentioned before, about the citizens under Big Brother's rule seemingly "forgetting" about the war changes with the supercontinents.

The billboards are enough to say that something not quite right is happening....

For example, this. Always watching....

SMILE! The lego dude doesn't look very happy though.

Enjoy popular music (by our government made song by under our "band name" A Popular Band)

It's a bit hard to read, but those banners say "Don't touch my stuff" and "Don't stay up all nite" Hmmm..

This appears, a huge billboard for President Business, looking very cold war era-y

Conform!!!

"No chewing gum" "No Playing in the Street" and then "No Marching Bands" Marching bands? Perhaps it's code word for gathered riots against Octan, making sure that rule abiding citizens don't gather together and march

Always return a compliment. ...always... And hi guys, it's me Octan again, putting my logo everywhere lol so you can always be sure I'm there for you, watching, watching......

Octan's logo is everywhere. Much like Ingsoc, really, for Nineteen Eighty-Four...

What was I doing? I don't know. I'm tired now. I should stop staring at my computer.

ps this song is awesome lololol
